Rouge is quite common to stainless steel pharmaceutical equipment, mainly found in the inner wall of the tank, material piping, injection water system, steam system, and spray ball, heat exchanger and other equipment, affecting the quality and safety of products. Regulations and pharmacopoeia such as ASME BPE, GMP and ISPE recommend the timely removal of rouge to eliminate its impact.

01 Cleaning with acid reagent

For the pipe and tank system of a well-known biopharmaceutical customer in Suzhou, due to years of high-load production, the stainless steel pipelines and tanks of the production line were found with rouge ranging from grade II to III. Based on the engineers’ advance field study and according to the customer’s shutdown window limit, Morimatsu provided reliable rouge removal services, and with formidable advantages in construction organization, it successfully completed the first phase of the customer’s rouge removal annual maintenance. In the service, Morimatsu helped the customer to remove rouge from more than 70 tanks and their corresponding pipelines (about 21,000 m), including: 8 stainless steel upstream systems for biopharmaceuticals, 44 stainless steel downstream systems, 18 CIP stations, and 2 water-for-injection recycling systems. Morimatsu has been well received by customers for its excellent service, strict quality assurance system and efficient construction organization.

02 Cleaning by electrolysis

A well-known biopharmaceutical customer in South China had visible rouge and slight corrosion on the inner surface of key equipment due to continuous production. Morimatsu arranged professional technicians according to the actual conditions of the site, and chose to electrolyze the inner surface of the tanks by electrolysis, ensuring the removal of the rouge and local corrosion while guaranteeing the roughness of the inner surface of the tanks. Morimatsu completed the equipment cleaning service on time and in good quality, which laid the foundation for the continuous production of the customer, and gained the customer’s satisfaction and praise for its professional and efficient service and rationalized suggestions.

03 Cleaning with neutral reagent

In view of different customers’ geographical locations, different requirements on the discharge of pickling medium and construction environment in rouge removal, Morimatsu has also independently developed the technology of removing rouge with neutral cleaning agent. Scientific and rigorous testing, inspection and evaluation have proved that the technology has good rouge cleaning effect and safety, and it has achieved good results in practical application of many projects.
